The benefits of HRT can be life changing, however breakthrough bleeding is common in the first few months of starting which can be a concern for women trying HRT.
This usually settles on its own or with appropriate dose adjustments.
New guidelines prepared by the British Menopause Society (BMS), endorsed by relevant organisations including the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, also the Royal College of GPs, sets clear guidance on how to manage bleeding problems so appropriate dose adjustments can be made and further investigation is arranged only when needed.
Women's Health Concern: the patient arm of the BMS have written a factsheet to explain the guideline: 33-WHC-FACTSHEET-Management-of-unscheduled-bleeding-on-HRT-AUG2024-D.pdf
